Habitat loss threatens proboscis monkeys
CARDIFF (UK) — The destruction of riparian forests in the name of development may cause a significant decline in the proboscis monkey populations throughout Borneo, conservationists report.Proboscis monkeys—one of the most distinctive looking primates on the planet with the longest noses—are mainly confined to peat and freshwater swamp forests, mangrove forests, and lowland dipterocarp (riverine) forests, habitats that are the most threatened in Borneo because of logging and conversion of land for agriculture....
